LAS CRUCES – A plaque honoring 51 individuals and couples who are the first inductees to the New Mexico Hall of Fame will be unveiled Monday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Gerald Thomas Hall lobby at New Mexico State University.
The ceremony is part of New Mexico's observance of National 4-H Week, Oct. 6-12. Inductees, their families and friends of 4-H are welcome to attend.
Hall of Fame members were selected for their contributions to 4-H as members, club and project leaders, fair superintendents, advisory board members, 4-H Foundation trustees, and former faculty and staff members with NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service.
The Hall of Fame was established in conjunction with 4-H's national centennial in 2002. New members will be inducted annually, said Jesse Holloway, head of the State 4-H Office at NMSU.
About 50,000 young people in New Mexico currently participate in 4-H, which is the world's largest youth program with 6.4 million members. 4-H programs are offered in every New Mexico county through local Extension offices.
