The bright yellow cards attract leafhoppers, which become stuck on the card’s sticky surface. Rascon, who works for the entomology, plant pathology and weed sciences department, checks 44 traps every two weeks at 10 fields in Deming, Salem, Garfield, Rincon and Las Cruces. Skyscraping trees (02/16/2006) Under adequate conditions, hybrid poplars can grow to 90 feet in 10 years, but Mick O’Neill —- superintendent of NMSU’s agricultural science center at Farmington —- says these poplars have already grown to 40 feet in just four years.
