Agricultural producers can learn about conserving water through more efficient irrigation practices during a live, online drought management workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. August 19th. Water Resources Specialist Craig Runyan with New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service says the workshop will cover irrigation scheduling and water metering, mechanical irrigation systems and converting from furrow to drip irrigation.

"This really would be for those producers who might be interested in the long-term water conservation practices that they might be able to implement in their operation by converting to more efficient irrigation systems."

Producers across the state can participate in the free workshop at their local county Extension offices. Runyan says the biggest benefit of an online presentation is the ability to reach producers in remote locations.

"The county Extension offices can get online and download the presentation, they can host their local clientele, so people don't have as far to travel or the presenters don't have to travel to several locations throughout the state."

For more information on the drought management workshop August 19th, call your county Extension office. For those unable to attend, the workshop will be archived for viewing at county Extension offices after the event. For N-M-S-U's College of Agriculture and Home Economics, I'm Anna María Pérez-Wright.
