Suggested Anchor IntroductionNew Mexico State University's Sustainable Agriculture Science Center at Alcalde wil hold a pruning workshop for fruit growers. Anna María Pérez-Wright has details. StoryNew Mexico fruit growers can learn proper pruning techniques for fruit trees and vines at a hands-on workshop March 6th at New Mexico State University's Sustainable Agriculture Science Center at Alcalde. Fruit specialist Ron Walser with N-M-S-U's Cooperative Extension Service says participants will learn by practicing on trees and vines grown at the center. "We'll prune all types of tree fruits and small fruits, berries and grapes. We'll start with young trees and learn the training techniques and then go down to some larger trees, and do some pruning. It's important to get those trees trained properly when they're young so that they can be very productive with good quality fruit." Walser says participants should bring their own shears to the workshop, which runs from 1 to 4 p-m. For more information, call Walser at (505) 852-4241.
